NICHE Canada has been hosting a series of forums across Canada that organizers say are “focused on providing people with meaningful and practical information about legalization, and how people can adapt to the changes and succeed in this new environment.”
The changes are complicated, and in some cases, still being rolled out.
These forums aim to target the needs of communities and bring together experts from a variety of sectors, including government, work safety, health care, education, legal and the cannabis industry for a “robust conversation about the impacts of legalization and what to expect moving forward.”
On Nov. 27, NICHE Canada and Cannabis Wise are hosting the next ‘Cannabis & Our Community’ event in Vancouver.
The conference will explore the current regulatory framework, address issues around community health and safety, and highlight how businesses and communities can capitalize on the opportunities available in the region.
Health Canada is one of the organizations speaking at the forum to provide an update and answer questions on the current regulatory framework and discuss what’s in store for 2019.
Representatives from the Province of British Columbia and the City of Vancouver will also be speaking at the event to provide insights on the local and provincial landscape: From new retail stores and land use planning, to unlicensed dispensaries, what happens at the local level has a big impact on the national regime.

“There is still a great deal of uncertainty across our country,” event organizers say. “Our goal is to engage people in a format that they are comfortable with and bridge the cannabis knowledge gap by advancing education and awareness about the industry.
“It is particularly important to create constructive dialogue with those who have not been part of the cannabis conversation,” organizers add. “Communication and collaboration will not only build bridges within the industry and help ensure the successful implementation of a legalized cannabis regime, it’s the only way to break down the walls of stigmatization.”
The event is set for Nov. 27, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Croatian Cultural Centre (3250 Commercial Dr., Vancouver).
