NICHE this Week: 5 Things You Need to Know

As you kick off the week, here are five things making news in the cannabis industry:

  • New Blog: Education Opportunities Continue to Expand; In our latest blog we highlight the positive gains being made in the cannabis space in terms of education and public awareness. Hopefully 2019 will be a record year!

  • New Statistics: Roughly 500,000 Canadians used cannabis before — or at — work since February, according to the latest National Cannabis Survey. As the Star reports, the survey’s latest installment, released by Statistics Canada, also found around 21.5 per cent of Albertans aged 15 and older — roughly 750,000 people — reported using cannabis in some form over the last three months. The national average is 18 per cent.
     
  • Research News: An Ontario neurologist has teamed up with researchers at the University of Toronto to explore whether CBD, combined with a low dose of THC decreases the number of seizures in adults with drug-resistant epilepsy. As the London Free Press reports, researchers will track the number of seizures participants experience, along with other symptoms such as depression, anxiety and sleep patterns. That data will be compared against a placebo group.
     
  • ICYMI: New Brunswick-based Moosehead Breweries is getting into the cannabis-infused beverage business, teaming up with Sproutly Canada to develop a line of non-alcoholic “rapid onset and offset” drinks.
     
  • Food for Thought: “Now, five years since a federally legal medical cannabis regime has existed, and half a year since cannabis has been legal for adult use across Canada, there is more growth in Bay Street corporations than in our greenhouses.” Read more from industry veteran Jamie Shaw.
