As you kick off the week, here are five things making news in the cannabis industry:
- New Blog: What’s a safe standard dose for cannabis edibles? Jenna Valleriani, Post-Doctoral Fellow in Vancouver (and incoming CEO of NICHE) and Rielle Capler, postdoctoral research fellow at the B.C. Centre on Substance Use say that Canada needs to settle on a safe standard dose for cannabis edibles and are proposing it be set at 2.5mg of THC.
- Research News: Addiction researchers at McMaster University want to stop the spread of misinformation about cannabis through a groundbreaking certificate course and two-day conference. As, the Hamilton Spectator reports, the continuing education program is set to launch a groundbreaking course called the Science of Cannabis.
- Canada’s most populous province finally opened its first ten cannabis shops Monday. As the Globe and Mail reports, many more will remain closed, racking up big rent bills for aspiring retailers still hoping to eventually access the country’s largest consumer market.
- Metro Vancouver’s board has voted to begin consultations with Canada’s cannabis industry on draft regulations that police air emissions from farms in and around Vancouver. In the meantime, asking Health Canada to enforce its own rules around odour control at these greenhouses. As the Vancouver Sun reports, enclosed facilities, powerful air filters and minimum distances from homes, hospitals, schools, daycares, playgrounds and care facilities are some of the requirements Metro Vancouver is proposing to deal with emissions from cannabis producers.
