NICHE this Week: 5 Things You Need to Know

As you kick off the week, here are five things making news in the cannabis industry:

  • New Blog: Federal Budget Preview: To Tax or Not to Tax; The federal government will unveil a new budget next week and they say it will lay out plans to keep prescription drug costs affordable. But, will it also include a break for Canada’s 300,000 licensed medical cannabis users?

  • Event News: We’re looking forward to this year’s O’Cannabiz conference and expo in Toronto! Our incoming CEO will be there to hear the great line-up of speakers and take part in a unique discussion with Canada’s Women In Weed! Check out the program and find out more about the event.

  • This month the federal government sent the first cannabis excise tax payments to the provinces. But almost none of the amounts was disclosed. As the National Post reports, that’s likely because the cheques were smaller than officials had expected. B.C. — the only province so far to disclose its excise tax revenues — had expected $50M this year. It will be lucky to get $3M.

  • While cannabis is often seen as a tool to unwind and sink into the couch, it can also be consumed strategically to give a boost of energy. Leafly profiles some of the best Canadian strains available to kick your productivity into high gear.

  • Food for Thought: Edibles take longer to kick in than smoked cannabis — one reason why people sometimes take too much by accident. The effects also last longer. But as Global News explains, there are chemical reasons why the high is often experienced differently.
